School Story:
Miss Milne had been busting us all class about using Arabic numerals when we put our Latin sentences on the board. Later, she went to the board to give us 10 Latin sentences to translate. Almost halfway through, Paul Swim leaned across the table and whispered, "look, she's using Arabic numerals!"
Indeed she was. "Say something," I encouraged him, but he shook his head. So I leaned back in my chair, looked around to see if anyone else had noticed; everyone was furiously scribbling down the sentences. Loud enough to make an impression, I asked (doing my best impression of Miss Milne's earlier accusations), "Do I see Arabic numerals?"
Miss Milne froze. Without turning around, her hand dropped to her side as she lowered her head, then, when the noise died down, she said, "Ken, you die!"
Nos morituri, te salutamus, Magistra.
