René Elizabeth Marchman-Cox was born at Fort Knox, KY on August 14, 1955. With her military family she lived in Tokyo, Japan; Bangkok, Thailand; and Monterey, California along with other military posts to include Fort Carson. She received a B.A. in elementary education and after her internships, she chose to begin her professional career as the Director of the Colorado Springs Day Nursery. A stalwart proponent of early childhood education, she later volunteered her expertise and talents to her church and community families throughout her years. Also a breast cancer survivor, she participated in events and encouraged many to discover early detection methods so they too could win the fight. Throughout her health challenges, she still remained interested in early childhood education and the health victories of breast cancer treatment and survival.

She enjoyed playing classical music and spiritual hymns, reading and research, and hot air balloon festivals. As a Christian, she encouraged others to remain focused on their spiritual path despite life's challenges and she especially gave unconditional love and care to her large family. The name René, Latin for "re-born," was a cherished affirmation for her.

She is survived by her loving husband, companions of over 20 years and married for 17 years, Phillip Cox. Also her mother, Cleasther B. Marchman, sister, Beatrice (BJ), brothers Cornelius Jr. (Beverly), Malcolm (Michelle), Kevin (Desiree), Jason (Karen) and many nieces and nephews and their children.
