I had Mr. Hansen as my drivers ed teacher. One day we were stuck at an accident around the Southgate Mall.  He told me that school lets out in 4 minutes so hurry back.  I hit south circle drive at 75 mph and made it back to school at the bell. He told me that I just went from a B to a C for speeding. I talked to him about it, and told him that I took his meaning of 4 minutes to the end of school as to get their as fast as I could. He thought about it and changed my grade back to a B-. Fun Guy RIP

My Father was a great teacher, coach, and friend to many. If you could please correct the spelling of his last name? Sam Hanson - there were many year books that missed that.... Thanks. I miss him, but he is always with me in spirit. Taken too soon.

Jim, I miss your Dad too.  We evoke his name often.

When I taught my children to drive I quoted him constantly.  {{laughing}} "1-2-3-can't-catch-me!"  And "If you can't see where the back tires of the car in front of you are touching the road you're too close."

During the 5 years I lived in Germany I drove stick shifts thanks to him.  I think we were the last class to learn on that VW Rabbit 4-speed manual. If I hadn't gone through a particularly excruciating class when I was a sophmore, with two seniors (Patrick Garcia and ?) in the back, stalling continuously on the steep hill at the traffick light on Circle Drive in front of Bonanza, with your Father patiently saying "put on the brake, put it in first, turn off the key, push in the clutch, over and over and over while 10 cars honked behind me, I'd certainly never have survived a German sports car and no speed limits.

My Dad treasured him as a friend as well (Somehow he didn't end up on the faculty list though he taught at Harrison for many years), as did my Mom, all of you.  They're both gone now.

I hope I gave you a little piece of him back again.
