Guidance Director Audrey Jenson (Rhodes)

Audrey Jensen Rhodes, 88, died at the Village at Skyline in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on February 10, 2010. She was born July 3, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN to William and Naomie (Olson) Pearson. She married Howard W. Jensen, a US Air Force fighter pilot who had recently returned from WW2 action, in 1945, and remained married until his death in 1979. They had three children: Carol L. Jensen Bush (deceased in 2004), Bruce H. Jensen of Lexington KY, and David W. Jensen of Colorado Springs. Audrey married David C. Rhodes of Manitou Springs in 1986. He preceded her in death in 1992. Her older sister, Lorraine Larm, also preceded her in death (2006). In addition to her two sons, she is survived by six grandchildren (Daniel Bush, Michael Jensen, Cheryl Jensen Robbins, Erin Jensen, Laura Jensen Acosta, and Brian Jensen), and one great-grandson, Hunter Jensen. Mrs. Rhodes graduated Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and obtained her Master of Arts degree from Colorado College in 1962. In 1956 she began a 25-year career in Harrison School District #2, first as a teacher, then Guidance Director at Harrison High School, and later as a guidance counselor at Panorama Middle School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Ambassador Sunday School class. She was a member and officer of the Colorado Wyoming Association of Women Administrators and Counselors. She was a life member of the Friends of the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum, and had been a docent at the museum. She was a volunteer with Pikes Peak Hospice for several years. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at the Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. Funeral services will be held in the Sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. A private burial ceremony will be held on Wednesday afternoon at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all of the kind and compassionate caregivers in Skilled Nursing at Village at Skyline. We would also like to thank the wonderful Evercare Hospice staff and Dr. Rusky for excellent care of our beloved mother.
