Fred Riley - Class Of 1966

1948 ~ 2016 Frederick Martin Riley a Harrison graduate from the class of 1966 passed away on April 30, 2016 in Draper, UT.

His sister in law Karyn McElroy Lentz described him as a quiet, humble guy who was a great listener. It was a great loss to the community when he passed away.  He was a man of great accomplishments and a man who was especially proud of his family.

He married his high school sweetheart, Sharyn McElroy in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 19, 1968. He was active in the Mormon Church, serving as an LDS Branch President in Gunnison, CO., an LDS bishop in Arvada, CO., and again as a bishop in Auburn, WA. He also served as Commissioner of LDS Family Services for several years and managed special projects for LDS Humanitarian Services doing development and strategic planning for community and health services, including a multi-national immunization program. He was on the boards of many nonprofits, including United Way of Salt Lake, The Utah Foster Care Foundation, Prevent Child Abuse Utah and Prevent Child Abuse America, The National Council for Adoption (from which he received the Adoption Hall of Fame award) and The U.S. Department of Justice Task Force Against Domestic Violence.

When he passed he left behind his wife of 47 years, as well as: son Travis (Teresa); daughter Liesl; son Fred R. (Amy); son Jaren (Jessie) and son Seth (Joni), as well as fourteen grandchildren. His sister in law said in closing; he was a true friend to many and deeply admired by his colleague and friends. He was a wonderful brother in law and will be sadly missed by all.
